The German Future Passive
Build the future passive with wird, participle and werden, and know when a simple present passive sounds better.
The future passive stacks two forms of werden: conjugated wird for the future and the infinitive werden for the passive. The participle comes right before that final werden.
wird + participle + werden
- Position 2: conjugated werden for the future.
- At the end: participle + werden.
- Two werden forms, two different jobs.
Die neue Brücke wird im Frühling eröffnet werden.
The new bridge will be opened in the spring.
Die Ergebnisse werden morgen veröffentlicht werden.
The results will be published tomorrow.

In subclauses
In a subclause, the conjugated werden moves to the very end. Three verbs then stand together.
Man sagt, dass die Schule bald geschlossen werden wird.
People say that the school will be closed soon.
Present passive usually does the job
With a time word, the present passive already refers to the future and is far more common. Keep wird … werden for formal texts and predictions.
Das Paket wird morgen geliefert.
The parcel will be delivered tomorrow.
Der Täter wird bald gefasst werden.
The culprit will soon be caught.
Future perfect passive
For an assumption about a finished action, use wird + participle + worden sein. It is rare and mostly written.
Der Brief wird schon abgeschickt worden sein.
The letter will probably have been sent already.

Questions learners ask
Is the future passive used in everyday German?
Rarely. Speakers prefer the present passive with a time word: Das wird morgen gemacht.
Why are there two forms of werden?
The first werden marks the future and agrees with the subject. The second, at the end, is the infinitive that makes the sentence passive.
