Name days and months, say and write dates the German way, and ask Der Wievielte ist heute?
German dates put the day first, then the month, then the year: 3.5.2026 is the third of May. The day is an ordinal number, so it takes an ending.

Saying a date
Use der + ordinal to name the date and am + ordinal for 'on'. The month can be a name or an ordinal number.

The day comes before the month, with der.
